| Dan Savage is one of the most empathetic people I have ever heard. On his first show he said that he listens to callers and then answers off the top of his head. If that is really the case then he is incredible. He can put himself precisely in the mindset of the caller at a moment's notice. He is experienced, especially in 'the scene.' Despite what I said earlier about him blowing some people away, I have also heard him answer genuine callers very sensitively. He is so open minded, he can deal with gay male issues, gay female issues, couples issues, and masturbation as deflty as if he has done them all himself. Production quality is good. The delivery is spot on, I think mostly because he is a consumate professional. However, I find some of the callers nearly impossible to understand. In defence of the show he immediately paraphrases their question so you don't lose the plot. The content, if nothing else is interesting. There is not a subject he will not tackle. Some subjects have absolutely no purpose e.g. sex with dolphins (yes the underwater mammals), ways for a black dude to date white women (as if white women are any different), how to treat an anal fissure .. the list goes on. Be warned, he will broaden your mind. Free on iTunes On the Web at The Stranger | | What is a Podcast? If you are tech savvy or know the answer to this then please don't take offence. One of my colleagues reminded me of something the other day. Not everyone who swings necessarily uses the internet except as a source of information. A podcast is like a radio or TV show. The major difference is, a podcast is broadcast over the internet, not over the radio waves. Generally podcasts are free, but some people make a living from podcasting so they charge per view/download. The other big differences between a podcast and a radio or TV show is that they are stored on a computer. Either yours or somewhere else. That means you don't have to listen to them live. You can listen when you want. Most people listen to podcasts on a portable media player like an iPod. You can also listen to them on a computer, or put them on a CD and listen to them in a CD player. Typically, you need a program called a podcatcher to collect them. iTunes does this for the Apple iPod. The podcatcher automatically downloads the sound/video files when they are made. It keeps them until you are ready to listen to them. You can also just click on the link to the audio file and listen to it Right then and there. The biggest difference between podcasts and mainstream audio/video is that they are cheap to make. They are also cheap to broadcast. This means that anyone who knows a little bit about audio and a little bit about the web can make their own podcasts. |
