Actually, I can't say for sure, I am just guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised if things keep going bad in the US that Desire Cancun goes the same way.

When we were at Cabo in 2007 the occupancy wasn't good despite the economy going gang-busters. It was about 66% when you discount the crew from Cancun who were there because of bad weather.

Add to that the fact that both resorts get regularly blown away due to hurricanes and the picture doesn't look too rosy.

The other thing is, compared to the USA the tariffs are just too good to be true.

One couple we know spent a few days at Temptations Cancun prior to spending a week with our group at Desire Cancun. They actually got kicked out of Temptations for being too naughty all the time (crazy Canadians)! I think (don't quote me) Temptations Cancun was formerly known as Blue Bay. Maybe whoever owns Temptations is simply in a better financial position than the owners of Desire (RCI).
Regardless, the attitude towards sex and public nudity is apparently vastly different between both organisations.
We both think the fact that the resorts get blown away by hurricanes is a good thing. Compared to last year, Desire was much improved!

Maybe the tarted it up a bit because they knew it was going on the market.

"Kicked out of Temptations for being too naughty all the time" answers a question. It's no good going to Temptations Cabo thinking you can 'make' it like it used to be.

The down side for club owners is that people would be away for a week or two. The upside is that when everyone gets back it would be with renewed vigour.

And look at the Aussie dollar now. Straight up it's gonna cost an extra 33% more.

Paula will chime in here. She's been doing some research and found a couple of places.

I think the thing will always be that any resort in Australia will be much smaller. With a tenth the population, it will have fewer rooms, be more costly, and be on a smaller scale.

That said, we know of at least three places that 'cater' for open minded couples.

Stand by for more information ...

Just did some quick sums. A basic room costs about $800 per couple per night in Aussie dollars.

A 5 star suite overlooking Sydney Harbour costs less than that.

Something close to home looks very attractive!

Agreed you can get a suite somewhere and spend as much as you like.

What I'm talking about is an all inclusive, 5 star, suitably understanding management,

Private resort with beach frontage, for m/f couples only and no day passes. We found it great to simply escape reality for a while. That's why we liked Desire so much. That's why it's so expensive. That's why we love it.

So Luke, are there any such resorts in Australia? Paula may be able to tell you why I ask.

The closest thing I could find was a potential resort in Cairns from an ABC radio transcript dated 2000!

All other search results lead to travel agencies flogging resorts in the Carribean.
At least that's what I get using Google (obviously not very well!)
